While at one point it looked like Maine-Endwell’s season was in jeopardy, the year ended with another state championship for the Spartans.
Maine-Endwell won the Class B State Championship by beating Pleasantville 21-12. The victory capped a very successful weekend for the state high school football teams. The Tioga Tigers and Chenango Forks Blue Devils both shut out their opponents en route to state title victories on Friday.

The Spartans’ path to the title was a little less straightforward, however. Maine-Endwell started the game going down early on a long touchdown pass to Pleasantville on a soft catch by wide receiver Daniel Picart.
Those would be the only points ME would allow though. After entering halftime just five points, ME stabilized and scored two more touchdowns in the second half to bring home the school’s sixth championship.
Considering the victory, it’s strange to think the title train could have derailed during the season.
A ruling in late October by the Section IV Sports Council said Maine-Endwell had to forgo a handful of this season’s wins because of what they considered an ineligible player – a move that would have made the record. of ME 1-6 at the time, instead of 6-1.
Maine-Endwell won the appeal, however, as they provided proof that the player in question was in fact eligible and the wins were restored. The rest, they say, is history.
