A new Walmart supercentre will open in Montreal with state-of-the-art features

A new Walmart Supercentre will open in Montreal’s Marché Central mall in 2023. According to Walmart, the new “state-of-the-art” store will have sustainable features, including a 125,000 square foot “green roof”.

Renderings of the Supercentre show a rooftop greenhouse spanning almost the entire length of the store.

Other features Walmart touted include “natural store refrigeration refrigerant,” LED lighting, “ultra-low-flow” plumbing fixtures, and building materials with recycled content.

Outside, the company has committed to building rain gardens in the parking lot, connecting the site to the city’s pedestrian and cycling network, and installing charging stations for electric vehicles.

“Walmart’s goal is to have as light a footprint as possible on the planet,” Walmart Canada Regional Vice President for Quebec Cyrille Ballereau said in a statement. Press release.

“Montreal is an extremely important market for us and we are extremely excited to expand into Quebec and offer even more shopping options to our customers.”

Walmart will hire approximately 300 people to staff the new Supercentre.

The company says the store is part of a “major investment in the Montreal market.” He is also renovating other places.

“We are always listening to our customers and this investment shows that we are committed to providing the best possible service at our everyday low prices,” added Ballereau.

“We look forward to opening this store next year as we continue to grow in Quebec.”

Walmart plans to open the Central Market Supercenter in the summer of 2023.
